India Triumphs Over Sri Lanka by 165 Runs in Galle Test

Galle, August 19: The Indian cricket team secured a convincing victory against Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the Test match held at Galle International Stadium. Thanks to the exceptional bowling performance by Manav Suthar, India wrapped up Sri Lanka’s second innings for just 206 runs on the fifth day of the match, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Sri Lanka was set a daunting target of 372 runs to win. Their start was disastrous, losing their first four wickets for only 47 runs, which significantly tilted the match in India’s favor. Although captain Dhananjaya de Silva (59) and Sonal Dinusha, who scored a century in the first innings, managed to delay the inevitable with an 84-run partnership, their efforts fell short. Sri Lanka’s innings ended at 206 runs in 77.4 overs, resulting in a substantial defeat.

Young bowler Manav Suthar was the standout performer for India in the second innings, claiming six wickets for 55 runs in 23.4 overs. Additionally, Prasidh Krishna took two wickets, while Siraj and Jadeja each contributed with one wicket.

India won the toss and opted to bat first, amassing a total of 462 runs, bolstered by Devdutt Padikkal’s 167, KL Rahul’s 82, and Dhruv Jurel’s 51 runs.

In their first innings, Sri Lanka managed to score 284 runs, with Sonal Dinusha scoring 100 and Niroshan Dickwella contributing 80 runs, leaving them 178 runs behind.

India’s second innings concluded at 193 runs, with Rishabh Pant scoring 66 runs. Based on their 178-run lead, India set Sri Lanka a challenging target of 372 runs.
