India Triumphs Over Sri Lanka by 165 Runs in Galle Test

Galle, August 19: India showcased an impressive performance by defeating Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test match. Chasing a target of 372 runs set by India at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka’s entire team was bowled out for 206 runs in their second innings.

This victory has positively impacted India’s standing in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, raising their win percentage to 53.33%. With this win, Team India has kept their hopes alive for reaching the WTC final. However, their position in the table remains unchanged. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s win percentage has dropped to 33.33% following this defeat, placing them sixth in the standings.

Australia continues to dominate the WTC points table with a win percentage of 77.78%, maintaining the top position. South Africa follows in second place with a win percentage of 75%. New Zealand ranks third with a win percentage of 72.22%. After defeating Australia in their first Test, Bangladesh has improved their win percentage to 66.67%, positioning them just above India in fourth place.

Sri Lankan batsmen struggled significantly in their second innings. Sonal Dinuja, who scored a century in the first innings, managed to contribute a solid 84 runs, while Dhananjay de Silva added 59 runs. However, apart from these two, the rest of the batting lineup succumbed easily to the Indian spinners. Manav Suthar was the standout bowler for India, taking 6 wickets in the second innings, while Prasidh Krishna claimed 2 wickets. Manav finished with a total of 10 wickets across both innings. With this victory, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
