New York, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Alexander Zverev continues to impress at the US Open 2026. The German player secured his place in the semifinals by defeating Botic van de Zandschulp with a score of 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
After struggling in his first two matches, which went to five sets, Zverev has found his rhythm. He has now won three consecutive matches in straight sets to reach the semifinals.
In the first set, Zverev broke his opponent’s serve twice, never allowing the Dutch player to settle into the match. The second set offered a brief glimpse of competition when Zandschulp led 5-4 and earned a set point. However, Zverev maintained his composure, denying the set point and breaking back to extinguish any hopes of a comeback. He saved both break points he faced and finished the match with eight aces.
With this victory, Zverev has become the first male player to reach the semifinals of all four major tournaments in 2026. He previously won the French Open, finished as the runner-up at Wimbledon, and lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
Zverev now has a chance to claim his first US Open title and his second title of the year, especially after the absence of Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz’s exit in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Zverev will face Russia’s Karen Khachanov, who advanced after his opponent, Alexander Blockx, withdrew due to injury while trailing 6-2, 7-5, 3-2. Khachanov’s journey has been impressive, having defeated both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorne Tien to reach this stage.
