India to Host Roadshow for Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects

New Delhi, May 27: The Indian government will organize a roadshow on Thursday to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects. Launched with a financial allocation of ₹37,500 crores, this initiative aims to enhance the efficient use of India’s vast coal and lignite resources through clean and value-added methods. This information was provided by the Ministry of Coal on Wednesday.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Coal, this initiative is a significant step towards achieving the national target of gasifying 100 million tons of coal by 2030. It is expected to strengthen India’s energy security and reduce dependence on imports of key commodities such as LNG, urea, ammonia, and methanol.

With an estimated investment of ₹2.5 to ₹3 lakh crores, the plan is projected to create around 50,000 direct and indirect job opportunities across approximately 25 projects in the country’s coal-producing regions. Additionally, the initiative is expected to generate about ₹6,300 crores in annual revenue from the utilization of 75 metric tons of coal and lignite, along with additional revenue through GST and other taxes.

The ministry stated that this roadshow is part of its ongoing efforts to accelerate the development of a robust coal gasification ecosystem in the country. Policymakers, state officials, industrialists, investors, technology providers, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders will gather to discuss emerging opportunities, partnerships, and future action plans for coal gasification in India.

The event will be attended by the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, and the Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey. Senior officials, including Coal Ministry Secretary Vikram Dev Datt and Additional Secretary Sanjog Kumar Jha, will also be present.
