India to Host 18th BRICS Summit on May 14-15, 2026

New Delhi, May 12: India is set to host the 18th BRICS Summit on May 14 and 15, 2026. This follows the 17th summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Ministry of External Affairs has released the schedule for the upcoming summit.

According to the Ministry, foreign ministers will arrive at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday, May 14, at 10 AM. The first session will commence at 10:30 AM. Following this, there will be a joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at ‘Seva Teerth’ at 1 PM.

The second session will begin at 3:10 PM, and a dinner hosted by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will take place at Bharat Mandapam at 7 PM. On the next day, May 15, the third session will start at 10 AM.

The 13th BRICS Summit was previously held in India on September 9, 2021, with the theme “BRICS 15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation, and Consensus.” Leaders adopted the New Delhi Declaration, marking BRICS’ 15th anniversary, emphasizing reforms in the multilateral system, counter-terrorism cooperation, the use of digital tools to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhancing transactions among people.

India has streamlined BRICS operations, making discussions more accessible and launching new ministerial-level tracks, such as the Digital Health Summit and the first Water Ministers’ meeting.

Foreign ministers from Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia are expected to attend the meeting. Reports suggest that the United Arab Emirates will be represented at the deputy foreign minister level, while Iran is also likely to send a delegation at the same level. Additionally, China’s Sherpa delegation is expected to participate.

Reports indicate that discussions during the summit will likely cover issues such as the Global South, multilateral cooperation, economic partnerships, regional security, and current geopolitical tensions.

India has set the theme for its BRICS presidency as “Building for Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.” Following its assumption of the presidency, India launched the ‘BRICS 2026’ website, theme, and logo on January 13.
