India Taxi App Crosses 4 Lakh Users, Adds 45,000 Daily

The India Taxi app, launched by the Ministry of Cooperation, has received overwhelming support from across the country, surpassing four lakh registered users.

The ministry reported that in the last two days, around 40,000 to 45,000 new users have been joining the platform daily. The app was officially launched on January 1.

On the social media platform X, the Ministry of Cooperation shared that registrations are growing steadily, with 40,000 to 45,000 new users signing up each day over the past two days.

The ministry’s post further confirmed that India Taxi has already crossed the milestone of four lakh registered customers.

The platform currently ranks ninth on Google Play Store and thirteenth on Apple’s App Store, while its driver-focused app holds the twentieth position on the Play Store.

This initiative is a step forward under the nationwide implementation of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” campaigns led by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

India Taxi was launched as a cooperative alternative to existing cab aggregators, positioning itself as a transparent and driver-friendly platform that emphasises police-verified drivers and safe travel.

The app is available on both Android and iOS, and early usage indicates it is establishing a foothold in India’s competitive ride-hailing market.

Featuring a clean and simple interface, the app allows easy ride booking within cities and includes additional services such as metro ticket booking and cab rentals for up to 12 hours.

Safety features are highlighted prominently, offering options like calling the police, alerting emergency contacts, contacting a security team, and activating a siren directly from the app.

While many of these features are similar to those offered by established competitors, their effectiveness will become clearer as user engagement grows.

Initial feedback points to some shortcomings; fares are not always cheaper than existing platforms, and occasional issues such as uniform pricing for AC and non-AC cabs suggest the app is still being refined.

The sign-up process is quick and straightforward, requiring only basic information like mobile number, name, and email address, but overall, the app still appears to be under development.

A key promise of India Taxi is its driver-first approach, currently claiming no commission charges from drivers, allowing them to keep the full fare paid by passengers.

The platform also plans dedicated airport pick-up and drop zones similar to Ola and Uber, with future expansion to other transport hubs.
