New Delhi, August 3: India’s Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George, hosted a dinner for a United Nations (UN) delegation on Sunday, sharing India’s perspectives on multilateralism.
The Ministry of External Affairs announced on the social media platform ‘X’ that Sibi George welcomed a delegation of permanent representatives at the UN. This delegation is on a week-long introductory visit to India. He shared India’s views on multilateralism and the UN, wishing the delegation a successful stay in the country.
In July, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched India’s campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term in New York. During this, he outlined India’s vision for a global order that is more representative, effective, and aligned with future needs.
Highlighting India’s comprehensive thinking on global governance, Jaishankar stated, “India’s focus will remain on building a secure, peaceful, and just world. A world where the voice of the Global South is heard equally. A world where peacekeeping is prepared to tackle current and future challenges. A world where multilateralism reflects today’s realities and provides effective solutions, not just ideals. A world where the full potential of technology reaches the people.”
He emphasized that India’s approach would be based on the principle of ‘Peace’ (Securing Holistic Advancement Through Norms, Trust, and Integrity). The main aim is to amplify the voice of the Global South on issues related to international peace and security.
He added that India’s path would be determined by dialogue, cooperation, and efforts to reduce differences between nations.
The External Affairs Minister also reiterated India’s commitment to enhancing the UN peacekeeping framework for the future. He stated that India would support a peacekeeping structure that is better equipped with resources, effectively utilizes technology, operates according to ground needs, and remains focused on its core objectives.
He affirmed India’s commitment to advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, supporting the significant role of female peacekeepers.
Jaishankar noted that India would prioritize promoting a free, open, and rules-based maritime order in accordance with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
