India Secures T20 Series Win Over Afghanistan with Dominant 7-Wicket Victory

New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : India triumphed over Afghanistan in the second T20 match held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 15, 2026, winning by seven wickets. With this victory, India has taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The final match is set for September 17 at the same venue.

Afghanistan, batting first after losing the toss, struggled initially, finishing with 159 runs after losing eight wickets. They faced an early setback, losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck in just 1.3 overs.

Captain Ibrahim Zadran attempted to stabilize the innings alongside Sediqullah Atal, adding 51 runs for the second wicket. However, once Zadran was dismissed for 37, the team’s innings faltered. By the time they reached a score of 100, six players had already returned to the pavilion.

Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan then stepped up, forming a crucial partnership. The experienced duo added 48 runs for the seventh wicket in just 28 balls, helping Afghanistan reach a challenging total.

Nitish Reddy was the standout bowler for India, claiming three wickets and earning the ‘Player of the Match’ title. Arshdeep Singh contributed with two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi each took one wicket.

In response, India chased down the target in 14.5 overs. The explosive opening partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson set the tone, as they combined for 88 runs off just 38 balls.

Abhishek scored 39 runs off 19 balls, including four sixes and two fours, before being dismissed. Sanju then added 11 runs with Ishan Kishan for the second wicket before he fell for 57 runs off 22 balls, featuring four sixes and seven fours.

Ishan continued the momentum with captain Shreyas Iyer, adding 24 runs for the third wicket. Iyer scored 11 runs before departing, but Ishan and Tilak Varma sealed the victory with a 40-run partnership for the fourth wicket, finishing the game comfortably.

Ishan ended with 38 runs off 23 balls, while Tilak remained unbeaten on 15 runs. Rashid Khan was the only Afghan bowler to take wickets, claiming all three of India’s dismissals.
