India Secures Six Medals in Under-23 Boxing Championships

Jakarta, July 10: Indian boxers continue to shine at the Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships. In Jakarta, six Indian athletes have secured their medals by reaching the semifinals in the Under-23 category.

Asian champion Vishwanath (50 kg) maintained his impressive form with a commanding 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia’s Ibrahim Aljohani. Similarly, Ganga (55 kg) matched this performance by defeating Vietnam’s Quang Lok Tran with the same score.

In the 65 kg category, Vanshaj triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Asilkhan Kosherbe with a 4-1 win, while Hitesh (70 kg) showcased his skills by winning against Indonesia’s Radiansyah via RSC in the first round.

Despite some close contests, Aryan Malik (80 kg) and Rocky Chaudhary (85 kg) faced defeats with scores of 4-1 and 4-0, respectively. Hemant Sangwan (90 kg) also lost to Uzbekistan’s Samir Sobirov by a 5-0 decision.

With these results, India has now secured six medals in the Under-23 men’s category, featuring semifinalists Vishwanath (50 kg), Ganga (55 kg), Vanshaj (65 kg), Hitesh (70 kg), Neeraj (75 kg), and Ishan Kataria (+90 kg). The strong performance in various weight classes highlights the depth of the Indian team.

Taking place from July 5 to July 16, the Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships provide a significant platform for India’s emerging talent to make their mark on the continental stage.

Earlier on Friday, India’s Under-19 women boxers also continued their stellar performances. Leading the charge, Chandrika Bhores Pujari (51 kg) achieved a remarkable 5-0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Jadyra Kulte. Joyshree Devi (54 kg) also secured a 5-0 win against Kazakhstan’s Maral Tolepbergen. Prachi (57 kg) maintained her excellent form by defeating Uzbekistan’s Robiya Ravshanova 5-0, while Chahat (60 kg) easily overcame Kazakhstan’s Zhasmin Abramyan with a 5-0 score.

In the 48 kg category, Gunjan defeated Mongolia’s Altanzul Altangadas in a tough 3-0 match, while Anshika (75 kg) increased India’s medal tally by winning against Kazakhstan’s Altingul Aymukhan with a score of 4-1.
