
London, July 11: The only Test match between the women’s teams of India and England is currently underway at Lord’s. On the first day of the match, England’s spin bowler Sophie Ecclestone took three wickets, making her the highest wicket-taker for England in international cricket.
Ecclestone reached this historic milestone by dismissing Deepti Sharma during her spell. She has now claimed a total of 338 wickets in international cricket, surpassing former England bowler Katherine Brunt, who took 335 wickets during her career. This achievement places Ecclestone third on the all-time list for women’s international cricket, ahead of Australia’s Ellyse Perry, who has 336 wickets.
In the list of the highest wicket-takers in women’s international cricket, India’s Deepti Sharma holds the top position with 356 wickets. Former Indian bowler Jhulan Goswami follows closely in second place with 355 wickets. On the first day of the Test, Ecclestone dismissed Deepti Sharma, Sayali Satghare, and Kranti Gaud.
The Indian team was all out for 285 runs on the first day of the Lord’s Test. Smriti Mandhana played a remarkable innings, scoring 83 runs off 108 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 58 runs from 121 balls, while Deepti Sharma scored 57 runs off 87 balls. Jemimah Rodrigues added 35 runs to the total. By the end of the day’s play, England had scored 21 runs for the loss of one wicket in their first innings, with Heather Knight and Maia Bouchier at the crease, having scored 4 and 17 runs, respectively. However, Tammy Beaumont, playing her final international match, could only manage 2 runs before being dismissed.
