Muscat, July 10: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi, in Muscat on Friday. The two leaders discussed the relationship between India and Oman, as well as recent developments in the Gulf region.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the Omani government for its prompt assistance to Indian seafarers during recent regional events. Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Jaishankar shared on the social media platform ‘X’, “I was pleased to meet Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi in Muscat today. We discussed various aspects of cooperation between our two countries. The conversation focused on trade, investment, connectivity, maritime affairs, technology, defense, cyber, and AI. We also elaborated on the developments in the Gulf region and efforts to maintain peace and stability. Our discussions reflected the trust and strength in the India-Oman strategic partnership.”
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi, noted that the long-standing maritime ties between India and Oman have connected the people of both nations, forming a strong foundation for friendship.
He wrote on ‘X’, “It was a pleasure to welcome India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar in Muscat. We had important discussions on the necessary diplomatic efforts to ensure freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. We are grateful for India’s support. The centuries-old maritime relations between Oman and India have connected our peoples and continue to provide a strong basis for our partnership today.”
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met with members of the Indian community residing in Oman and appreciated their contributions to strengthening India-Oman relations.
He posted on ‘X’, “Had a great conversation with the Indian community in Oman on Friday morning. Their interest and enthusiasm for strengthening India-Oman relations were evident. I appreciated their contributions to society and the India-Oman partnership.”
Jaishankar arrived in Oman after completing his visit to Kuwait. Oman is the fourth stop on his six-country tour, which will also take him to New York and Brussels.
