India Emerges Stronger from Global Crises, Says Shaktikanta Das

New Delhi, April 9: India has consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience during global crises, not just recovering but emerging stronger each time. This statement was made by Shaktikanta Das, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, on Thursday.

Speaking at the AIMA National Leadership Conclave in the national capital, Das highlighted that India’s journey during challenging times showcases the nation’s ability to progress despite obstacles.

He remarked, “During every crisis, the country has not only endured hardships but has come out stronger than before.”

Das pointed out that the current global economy is facing uncertainty and stress, characterized by geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and uneven development across various sectors.

He noted, “The risks in the global economy are currently skewed downwards.” In this context, he emphasized India’s robust economic performance.

The country recorded a real GDP growth of 7.6% for the fiscal year 2025-26, with an average growth rate of 7.8% over the past five years.

Das stated that India’s strength lies not just in weathering crises but in its ability to adapt and improve under challenging circumstances.

According to him, factors such as macroeconomic stability, consistent policy decisions, infrastructure development, and strong domestic demand have played a crucial role in building this resilience.

Emphasizing the importance of controlling inflation, he mentioned that rising prices disproportionately affect the poor.

He added that lower inflation enhances people’s purchasing power, contributing to overall economic stability.

Das also explained that during crises, India adopted balanced policies, implementing fiscal and monetary measures when necessary and retracting them promptly to avoid systemic imbalances.

He discussed the structural changes occurring in the economy, including rapid digitization, infrastructure expansion, and growth in sectors like electronics and semiconductors.

He concluded by stating, “Globally, India has diversified its partnership network while maintaining strategic autonomy, reducing dependence on any single country.”
