
Mumbai, July 17: The growing relationship between India and Argentina has been highlighted by Daniel Quer Confalonieri, the Argentine Consul General, during a recent event in Mumbai. He emphasized that both nations are actively working to enhance their collaboration across multiple sectors.
In an interview, Confalonieri noted the enthusiastic celebration of International Yoga Day in Argentina. Despite the geographical distance, the two societies are closely connected. Both India and Argentina are part of the Global South, and their international and bilateral relations are continuously strengthening. Trade between the two countries is also thriving.
He mentioned that India is investing in the lithium sector in Argentina. Yoga has gained significant popularity among the Argentine populace. International Yoga Day was celebrated in various regions of Argentina. Furthermore, Indian fans have developed an appreciation not just for Lionel Messi but for football as a whole.
While cricket remains the most popular sport in India, Confalonieri observed the presence of a football school run by Argentines in the country. He believes that the two societies are drawing closer together, fostering a connection that will only strengthen in the future.
On Thursday, Mariano Agustin Cosino, the Argentine Ambassador to India, stated that the relationship between the two nations has been consistently strengthening over the past 80 years. He highlighted that India is now Argentina’s sixth-largest economic partner. The significance of this relationship has grown to the extent that India has become a crucial economic ally for Argentina.
Cosino pointed out that the trade between the two countries has reached approximately six billion dollars in the last four to six years and continues to rise. As India’s global importance increases, so does the strength of this partnership.
According to the Indian Embassy, the relationship between India and Argentina is founded on shared values, mutual respect, understanding, and adherence to the rule of law. The strong ties between the two nations have deepened over time.
In February 2019, during a visit by the then-President of Argentina to India, the relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership. In 2024, both countries will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.
