New Delhi, July 31: The eighth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 proved to be fruitful for India, as the nation secured one silver and one bronze medal. However, despite these victories, India slipped two positions in the overall medal tally.
India now boasts a total of 17 medals in the Commonwealth Games, including 3 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze. Unfortunately, the country has fallen from eighth to tenth place in the medal standings.
The first medal of the day came from weightlifter Lovepreet Singh, who excelled in the 110+ kg category, lifting a total of 388 kg to clinch the silver medal. He narrowly missed out on gold by just one kilogram.
In the women’s discus throw event, Seema Kaliraman secured the second medal of the day for India, bringing home a bronze with her best throw of 58.65 meters. This marked India’s fourth bronze medal in this event.
Australia maintained its dominance on the eighth day, increasing its total medal count to 110, which includes 51 gold, 24 silver, and 35 bronze medals.
England has moved into second place with 15 gold, 30 silver, and 20 bronze medals. Canada has dropped one position, now sitting third with a total of 45 medals, including 15 gold. Meanwhile, the host nation, Scotland, remains in fourth place with 9 gold, 7 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
Nigeria holds fifth place with a total of 15 medals (8 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze), while South Africa is sixth with 6 gold and a total of 23 medals. Malaysia ranks seventh with 12 medals, and New Zealand is eighth with 21 medals, including 5 gold. Just above India is Jamaica, which has won 4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals thus far.
