Glasgow, July 31: The Indian team delivered an outstanding performance on the eighth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Seema Kaliraman secured a bronze medal in the women’s discus throw final. After her victory, Seema expressed that her main focus was on delivering her best performance rather than worrying about the medal.
In an interview with a news agency, Seema stated, “I am thrilled to win the medal. The joy is so immense that I might not be able to express it in words. During the match, I had nothing on my mind. Since I began enjoying my sport, things have been improving on their own. I didn’t even think about bringing home a medal or how far I would throw. My only aim was to perform my best, regardless of whether a medal came or not.”
Seema participated in the Commonwealth Games 2026 without her child. She mentioned that she misses her child dearly, and her emotions surface whenever she speaks about them. Her husband, Ravinder, who is also her personal coach, accompanied her to Glasgow. Seema noted that she faced significant challenges in the 2025 Asian Championship without her husband by her side.
She shared, “In the Asian Championship, my husband was not with me, and I suffered the consequences. However, having him here has been incredibly beneficial. His presence boosted my confidence immensely. He never pressured me for a medal; he simply told me to enjoy the event and strive to give my best.”
Seema appealed to the government to support athletes who show interest in sports. She emphasized that before winning medals, athletes face numerous challenges. According to Seema, a player must confront various mental and financial hurdles. She achieved her bronze medal with a best throw of 58.65 meters.
