India Dominates Afghanistan by an Innings and 300 Runs in Test Match

New Chandigarh, June 8: India triumphed over Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in a one-off Test match held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Afghanistan struggled in their first innings, collapsing for just 152 runs, which forced them to follow on. The visitors fared even worse in their second innings, managing only 112 runs.

In the follow-on, Afghanistan started cautiously with Sedikullah Atal and Abdul Malik adding 42 runs for the first wicket. However, Malik fell for 8 runs, and Atal was dismissed for 42 runs after facing 80 balls, falling to Washington Sundar.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz failed to make an impact, scoring just 24 runs. Rahmat Shah, who had scored a half-century in the first innings, could only manage 13 runs this time. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi contributed a mere 5 runs, while Azmatullah Omarzai returned to the pavilion with just 4 runs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Afzar Jazi was out for 8 runs, and Kharoti could only score 6. Mohammad Salim was dismissed without scoring, and Ashraf did not bat due to injury. In the second innings, Washington Sundar delivered an outstanding bowling performance, taking 4 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed 3. Mohammad Siraj and Manav Suthar each took one wicket.

Earlier, India declared their first innings at 564 runs, losing 8 wickets, thanks to centuries from KL Rahul (100 runs) and Shubman Gill (126 runs). Sai Sudharsan (81 runs), Rishabh Pant (81 runs), and Washington Sundar (not out 52) also contributed with half-centuries.

In response, Afghanistan’s entire team was bowled out for 152 runs, with Rahmat Shah scoring the highest at 60 runs. However, he lacked support from his teammates. India’s significant first-innings lead of 412 runs proved decisive. Manav Suthar, making his debut, excelled with the ball, taking 6 wickets for 37 runs in the first innings, while Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets.
