
New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : The 2026 Asian Games in New Delhi marked a remarkable day for India on October 2, with several athletes clinching medals. Boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda, and Ankush Panghal each secured gold medals, while wrestler Sujit Kalkal also triumphed in his event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the medalists through social media.
PM Modi praised Lovlina for her impressive performance, stating, “Congratulations to Lovlina Borgohain for winning gold in the women’s 75 kg boxing event with a stunning 5-0 victory in the finals. Her journey showcases incredible determination and skill. Best wishes for her future endeavors.”
He also recognized Neetra Kumannan for her bronze medal in the women’s dinghy sailing competition, calling it a significant achievement for India. “I hope she continues to reach new heights and inspires a new generation of athletes in our country,” he added.
The Prime Minister celebrated the Indian men’s quadrants team for their historic bronze medal in sepaktakraw, noting it as the first medal for India in this category at the Asian Games. “Their determination and fighting spirit are commendable, and I hope this success continues,” he remarked.
Parveen Hooda’s gold medal in the women’s 65 kg boxing final was also highlighted by PM Modi. He expressed his admiration for her remarkable achievement, stating it adds another glorious chapter to Indian boxing and serves as an inspiration for many.
Ankush Panghal received accolades for his gold medal in the men’s 80 kg boxing final. PM Modi commended his passion and dedication, emphasizing that his success marked a splendid conclusion to India’s boxing campaign at the Games.
Sujit Kalkal’s thrilling victory in the men’s 65 kg freestyle wrestling final was celebrated as well. PM Modi noted that this was India’s first gold medal in wrestling at the Asian Games, calling it a memorable win and wishing him the best for the future.
President Droupadi Murmu also congratulated the medal winners on her social media platform. She acknowledged Sujit for his gold medal in freestyle wrestling, praising his courage and performance during crucial moments of the final. “You have elevated the nation’s pride, and I hope this historic victory inspires young athletes,” she wrote.
The President also congratulated Ankush Panghal, highlighting his calm demeanor and powerful performance in the boxing ring, which she deemed a proud moment for Indian boxing.
In her message to the Indian men’s quadrants team, she expressed her admiration for their agility and teamwork, wishing them continued success in future competitions.
