Charkhi Dadri, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Ritu Sheoran, the gold medal-winning kabaddi player from the Asian Games, received a warm welcome in Charkhi Dadri on October 2. The event was graced by Haryana’s Cabinet Minister, Krishna Lal Panwar, who praised Ritu for her outstanding achievement.
Expressing her joy over winning the gold medal, Ritu credited her team’s success to the strategies devised by their coaches and experts. She highlighted that, as kabaddi is not yet part of the Olympics or Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games represented the biggest platform for her thus far.
Ritu emphasized that her primary goal was to secure a gold medal at the Asian Games. She acknowledged the support from her coaching staff, the federation, and officials who have consistently backed kabaddi. Thanking Krishna Lal Panwar and Kuldeep Dalal, she noted that their assistance has provided players with opportunities to excel.
Looking ahead, Ritu mentioned that the team is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games in 2030. She expressed optimism that if kabaddi is included in future major events like the Commonwealth and Olympic Games, the Indian team would perform exceptionally well. Ritu also encouraged young girls, urging them to put in full effort in both education and sports, as hard work is the key to success.
During the ceremony, Minister Krishna Lal Panwar congratulated Haryana’s athletes, noting their significant contribution to India’s performance at the Asian level. He pointed out that out of the 12 players in the women’s team, six hail from Haryana, while eight out of twelve in the men’s team are also from the state. He commended the ongoing success of the women’s kabaddi team.
Panwar acknowledged the crucial role played by the federation and sports officials in promoting kabaddi. He paid tribute to the late Janardan Gehlot for his contributions and reiterated that efforts will continue to help Indian athletes win medals in international competitions.
Referring to Haryana’s sports policy, the minister mentioned that the state government rewards medal-winning athletes with substantial cash prizes and job opportunities. He stated that athletes from Haryana who win medals at the Asian Games receive three crore rupees each, while Olympic gold medalists get seven crore rupees and a Class-One job, silver medalists four crore rupees, and bronze medalists two and a half crore rupees.
