Dubai, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : India has claimed the Women’s Asia Cup title for the eighth time, defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 13, 2026. Chasing a target of 184 runs, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 111 runs.
Sri Lanka’s innings got off to a rocky start, with Imesha Dulani scoring only 4 runs before being dismissed. The second wicket partnership between Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne produced 58 runs off 53 balls, but the innings faltered thereafter. Vishmi managed 20 runs before falling, while Athapaththu scored 36 runs with the help of four boundaries and two sixes.
Harshitha Samarawickrama faced 14 balls but could only muster 9 runs. Nilaakshi de Silva scored 22 runs from 16 balls before being dismissed, and Kavisha Dilhari added just 7 runs from 5 balls. Hasini Perera was out for a single run, caught off Shefali Verma‘s bowling. Kaushani Nuthyangana scored 9 runs before being dismissed. India’s bowling attack was led by Shafali Verma, who took 4 wickets, while Deepti Sharma claimed 3 wickets. Both Shafali and Prema Rawat took one wicket each.
Batting first after winning the toss, India had a strong start. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana put on a spectacular opening partnership, scoring 129 runs in just 12.5 overs. Shefali dazzled with a quickfire 68 runs off 39 balls, hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes. Mandhana contributed 59 runs off the same number of balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur had a quieter outing, scoring only 14 runs before being dismissed.
Richa Ghosh added 17 runs from 13 balls before falling to Athapaththu, while Deepti Sharma scored 5 runs. Gunalan Kamalini managed 15 runs off just 5 balls before the innings concluded. For Sri Lanka, Athapaththu, Chamudi Prabodha, and Mithali Ayodhya each took one wicket.
This victory marks a significant achievement for the Indian women’s cricket team as they continue to dominate in the Asia Cup.
