Dubai, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : India’s star all-rounder, Deepti Sharma, is well aware of the competitive spirit that defines the matches between India and Sri Lanka. As the teams prepare to face off in the Asia Cup final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Sharma stresses the importance of not underestimating their opponents.
This final marks the third consecutive meeting between India and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, with each team having secured a win in previous finals. Despite India’s historical advantage, Deepti remains cautious. She acknowledged the talent within the Sri Lankan squad, stating, “We all know they have a good team, and they are bringing in some strong young players in this Asia Cup. Therefore, we cannot take them lightly.”
Speaking with broadcasters before the final, Deepti reflected on past encounters, emphasizing that every match against Sri Lanka has been competitive. “We remember that they are a good team, and we will not take any team lightly, especially Sri Lanka. However, our focus remains on improving our own performance,” she added.
When asked about specific strategies for the final, Deepti kept her plans under wraps but indicated that the team has prepared thoroughly. “Of course, I can’t share that here. But yes, we have devised some plans for the final. We also analyzed the semi-final match against Pakistan,” she noted.
Middle overs have been crucial in this tournament, with India being the only team to consistently post high scores. Deepti highlighted that every over matters in determining the outcome of the match. “All 40 overs are significant because sometimes the ball behaves well during the powerplay, and sometimes it doesn’t. We have to be ready for anything. We are familiar with the conditions here, having played several matches before,” she explained, looking forward to an exciting contest.
Throughout the tournament, Deepti has showcased her exceptional bowling skills, jointly leading the wicket tally with 11 dismissals, alongside Sri Lanka’s captain, Chamari Athapaththu. In the final against Sri Lanka, India won the toss and opted to bat first, giving G. Kamalini a chance in place of Pratika Rawal.
