Singapore, June 30: The Indian Navy and the Singapore Navy participated in a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) program focused on maritime surveillance aircraft operations on Tuesday. This event coincided with the Indian Navy’s P-8I (Poseidon-8 India) aircraft’s visit to Singapore’s Paya Lebar Airbase.
The Indian High Commission in Singapore announced on the social media platform ‘X’, “Defense cooperation between India and Singapore is continuously strengthening. Experts from both navies engaged in the SMEE program during the arrival of the P-8I aircraft at Paya Lebar Airbase.”
The post further elaborated, “The program included detailed discussions on maritime surveillance capabilities, operational methods, training, and improved processes. This highlights the robust and long-standing defense cooperation between the two countries.”
Last week, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, met with India’s new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani. They discussed defense cooperation topics, including joint military exercises, mutual exchanges, and ongoing dialogues between the armed forces of India and Singapore.
During this meeting, Simon Wong congratulated General Subramani on his new appointment. He wrote on ‘X’, “On Tuesday, I met with the Chief of Defense Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, General N.S. Raja Subramani, to congratulate him on his new responsibilities. We discussed the long-standing defense cooperation between our two nations, major military exercises, exchanges, and regular meetings, as well as ideas to further strengthen this partnership under General Subramani’s leadership.”
Last month, the 16th round of India-Singapore defense policy talks was held in Singapore, co-chaired by India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defense, Joseph Leong.
Both officials reviewed the defense cooperation achieved so far and engaged in extensive discussions on critical issues such as military collaboration, defense industry, capacity building, and regional security. Furthermore, they explored new opportunities to enhance strategic relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly within the defense industries.
