New Delhi, May 8: India and Singapore have reiterated their commitment to combating terrorism through continuous collaboration at all levels. Both nations emphasized the importance of strengthening anti-terrorism cooperation. They agreed to enhance their joint efforts on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations (UN), ASEAN, and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
According to a joint press statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the fifth meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on counter-terrorism and international crime took place on Thursday in New Delhi. As strategic partners, both countries highlighted the significance of bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
The meeting was co-chaired by Vinod Bahade, Joint Secretary for Counter-Terrorism in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Ngiam Shih Chun, Deputy Secretary (Policy) of Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs.
The joint statement condemned all forms of terrorism, particularly cross-border terrorism, in unequivocal terms. It reiterated the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ towards terrorism.
The meeting also condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, and the incident near the Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025. Both nations asserted that those responsible for these attacks must be held accountable.
The statement noted that both sides discussed cooperation against terrorists and terrorist organizations listed by the UN Security Council’s 1267 Sanctions Committee. They also agreed to strengthen arrangements for sharing information to address cross-border threats swiftly and effectively.
The MEA indicated that discussions included both traditional and emerging threats. Topics covered included terrorist recruitment, cross-border movement, radicalization, misuse of technology, funding for terrorism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and the nexus between organized international crime and terrorism.
Both countries agreed to enhance mutual cooperation to tackle these challenges, particularly in information sharing, law enforcement collaboration, capacity building, and sharing best practices.
During their visit to New Delhi, the Singaporean delegation also toured India’s Anti-Scam Centre.
The joint statement emphasized the necessity of cooperation between countries to address international online fraud and scams. Both parties expressed hope for strengthening collaboration through information sharing, training, and adopting better practices.
It was also decided that the next meeting of this Joint Working Group on terrorism and international crime will be held in Singapore by mutual agreement.
