India and New Zealand Set Record in T20 World Cup Final with 414 Runs

New Delhi, March 9: In a thrilling finale of the T20 World Cup 2026, India and New Zealand combined to score an impressive 414 runs. This marks only the second instance in T20 World Cup knockout history where over 400 runs were scored.

At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India batted first, amassing 255 runs while losing 5 wickets. Sanju Samson led the charge with a stellar 89 runs, supported by Abhishek Sharma’s 52 runs and Ishan Kishan’s contribution of 54 runs.

In response, New Zealand struggled, finishing their innings at 159 runs in 19 overs. Tim Seifert was the standout performer for the visitors, scoring 52 runs off just 26 balls, while captain Mitchell Santner added 43 runs. India clinched the match by 96 runs, securing their third T20 World Cup title, making them the first nation to achieve this feat.

Earlier in the tournament, India faced England in the semi-finals, where a total of 499 runs were scored. India batted first, scoring 253 runs with Sanju Samson again shining with 89 runs. Shivam Dube and Ishan Kishan chipped in with 43 and 39 runs, respectively.

England, in their chase, managed 246 runs, with Jacob Bethell’s remarkable 105 runs off 48 balls featuring 7 sixes and 8 fours, but it was not enough to secure victory.

Additionally, there have been two matches in T20 World Cup history where 388 runs were scored, including a 2010 semi-final between Australia and Pakistan, and another in 2016 between India and West Indies.
