Tel Aviv, February 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel are set to finalize discussions regarding the Iron Dome today. If an agreement is reached, it will mark a significant advancement in national security for India.
During ‘Operation Sindoor’, India showcased its indigenous weaponry capabilities, successfully thwarting enemy attacks and destroying nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and POK.
Before their major bilateral meeting at the King David Hotel, both leaders will visit Yad Vashem. The discussions will focus on reviewing the India-Israel strategic partnership, emphasizing cooperation in defense, science and technology, trade, and people-to-people interactions. Additionally, they will exchange views on essential regional and global developments.
The two leaders are expected to sign several MOUs in economic, security, and diplomatic sectors, aimed at enhancing collaboration between the two nations. Following the signing ceremony, Modi and Netanyahu will hold a joint media briefing.
India’s focus is on solidifying a strategic partnership with Israel to acquire Iron Dome technology. This proposed arrangement goes beyond mere procurement and is considered a crucial component of India’s indigenous ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’, also known as Project Kusha.
Israel has officially offered to transfer Iron Dome technology to India under the “Make in India” initiative. This will facilitate local production and integration into a multi-layered air defense system designed to counter short-range rockets, mortars, and drones.
In addition to the Iron Dome, India is also showing keen interest in Israel’s new Iron Beam laser-based system, viewed as a cost-effective, rapid solution against low-cost aerial threats. The goal is to secure Indian cities and critical infrastructure with a high-success-rate protective shield, complementing long-range defense platforms like the S-400. The broader aim is to establish an “impenetrable” national security shield by 2030.
During ‘Operation Sindoor’, India utilized both indigenous and advanced foreign weaponry, including BrahMos, Hammer guided bombs, Rafale jets, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and Mirage 2000, to dismantle terrorist bases in Pakistan.
