New Delhi, June 29: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of enhancing economic collaboration between India and Greece during a significant meeting with Greek Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos.
In a post on the social media platform X, Goyal stated, “We discussed opportunities to boost cooperation in manufacturing, startups, and emerging technologies to ensure shared prosperity for both nations.”
The discussions also covered advancing the India-Greece economic partnership through trade, investment, industrial cooperation, and strengthening supply chains.
Currently, Goyal is on a high-level visit to Greece with a delegation of Indian business leaders. The primary aim is to increase trade and investment while reinforcing strategic economic cooperation, as detailed in an official statement released on Sunday.
During their visit, the Indian delegation will participate in a presentation and startup pitch event at the Athens Startup Business Incubator (THEA). This platform will allow the next generation of startups to showcase their capabilities and promote innovation-based partnerships between the two countries.
Additionally, the delegation will hold a special roundtable meeting with leaders from the Indian and Greek business communities at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
These meetings will explore opportunities for collaboration in critical sectors such as infrastructure, digitization, defense, food processing, and agriculture. New avenues for strengthening partnerships in the private sector will also be sought.
According to the official statement, the visit will conclude with meetings involving prominent business and institutional representatives from Greece. The goal is to enhance partnerships among industries and expand trade relations between the two nations.
Last week, Piyush Goyal successfully completed a three-day visit to the UK, where he participated in the ‘India-UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary’ event in London. During this event, key representatives from both countries’ industries supported the proposed India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), believing it will elevate trade and investment relations to new heights.
The statement noted that this visit to Greece, following the UK trip, aligns with the Indian government’s policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. This policy aims to strengthen global economic partnerships, promote innovation-based development, and enhance India’s trade and investment diplomacy in major international markets.
