India and Germany Reinforce Commitment to Boost Trade and Investment Relations

India and Germany discuss enhancing trade and investment ties during high-level meetings in Berlin, focusing on industrial cooperation and free trade agreements.

New Delhi, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : India and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen trade and investment relations, focusing on industrial cooperation and the potential of a free trade agreement between India and the European Union. This was announced by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal during a series of high-level meetings in Berlin.

Goyal participated in discussions aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between India and Germany. Key topics included trade, investment, technology, and industrial collaboration. The meetings featured a bilateral session with Germany’s Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katharina Reiche, and the inauguration of the India Centre at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP).

The India Centre aims to promote policy research and dialogue on India-Germany relations. Goyal and Reiche co-chaired the India-Germany Business Roundtable, which included CEOs and business leaders from various German companies.

In his speeches, Goyal emphasized the need to accelerate growth and initiate a new era of trade, while Reiche discussed transforming the free trade agreement into a reality for the industrial sector. The subsequent discussions focused on turning the proposed India-EU free trade agreement into tangible trade and investment opportunities.

During the “Berlin Global Dialogue,” Goyal participated in a panel titled “A New Era, New Alliances: The Third Way?” alongside key figures including Martin Blessing, the German Chancellor’s personal representative for investment affairs, Singapore’s Minister of Manpower, Dr. Tan See Leng, and Emma Marcegaglia, Chair and CEO of Marcegaglia Steel.

Goyal highlighted the importance of trust in international partnerships and the need for complementary economic capabilities and resilient supply chains. He was accompanied by a delegation of nearly 100 Indian companies and startups on his visit to Germany and the Netherlands.
