India and Germany Discuss Middle East Tensions Amid Rising Conflicts

New Delhi, March 23: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul regarding the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The two leaders agreed to maintain close contact amid the evolving situation.

Dr. Jaishankar shared insights about the conversation on the social media platform X, stating, “Last night, I had a productive discussion with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on the Middle East conflict. We agreed to stay in touch.”

This recent dialogue follows several diplomatic meetings between the two leaders in recent weeks. On March 16, Dr. Jaishankar met Wadephul in Brussels, where they exchanged views on the Middle East disputes and reviewed various aspects of cooperation between their countries.

Previously, on March 10, both ministers discussed the situation in the Middle East as part of their ongoing conversations, reflecting growing international concern over the impact of disputes on energy security and regional stability.

In recent weeks, Dr. Jaishankar has actively engaged with multiple global partners as tensions escalate in the Middle East. He has maintained regular contact with key stakeholders, including Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.

Beyond Iran, the External Affairs Minister has continued discussions with foreign ministers from several Gulf countries, emphasizing India’s diplomatic efforts to remain connected with all parties involved in this crisis.

The conflict in the Middle East escalated following attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel on February 28, resulting in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, the situation has deteriorated further, involving several Gulf nations and raising concerns over critical strategic corridors like the Strait of Hormuz.

India’s perspective on this crisis demonstrates a thoughtful and balanced diplomatic strategy. Since February 28, Indian leadership has maintained dialogue with all regional leaders, indicating a consistent effort to navigate the crisis without aligning with any specific side.
