India and Fiji Strengthen Agricultural and Capacity-Building Cooperation

Suva, March 26: India’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Sunil Mehta, met with Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture, Waterways, and Sugar Industry, Tomasi Tunabuna, on Thursday. The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in agriculture and capacity building.

On social media platform X, High Commissioner Sunil Mehta expressed his pleasure in meeting Minister Tunabuna, highlighting productive conversations aimed at strengthening agricultural collaboration and deepening the growing partnership between the two nations.

Earlier, on March 10, India and Fiji had discussions centered on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including digital and multimedia communication, climate initiatives, waste management, training, and capacity building.

Prior to this, on March 6, Sunil Mehta met with the CEO of the Fiji Development Bank, Filimone Wakabaka, to explore opportunities for increasing cooperation in development finance, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

The Indian High Commission in Fiji posted on X about this meeting, noting that discussions focused on strengthening India-Fiji cooperation in development finance, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

Last month, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, met with Fiji’s Minister for Finance, Commerce, and Trade Development, Asrom Emmanuel, in New Delhi. They discussed bilateral relations, shared priorities, and potential collaboration in digital infrastructure.

Margerita shared on X, expressing her satisfaction with the meeting, which covered various aspects of India-Fiji relations and shared priorities, particularly focusing on development partnerships, capacity building, and digital infrastructure cooperation, including ongoing collaborations and future pathways.

The relationship between India and Fiji is built on mutual respect, cooperation, and strong cultural ties. According to the Indian High Commission in Fiji, the ties between the two countries have significantly strengthened since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Fiji in November 2014, which also marked the first meeting of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).
