Dubai, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final is set to take place on Sunday in Dubai, where India will face Sri Lanka. This match will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and the Indian team is eager to avenge their defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final.
India has a strong track record against Sri Lanka in T20 cricket. Out of 31 matches played between the two teams, India has won 25, while Sri Lanka has secured victory in just five. However, Sri Lanka triumphed over India in the previous Asia Cup final, claiming the title.
Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team has performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament, reaching the final without losing a single match. In the semifinals, India showcased their skill by defeating Bangladesh by 40 runs. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana have been in excellent form with the bat, although Kaur and Richa Ghosh have yet to find their rhythm. The bowling department has been bolstered by the effective trio of Shree Chahar, Deepti Sharma, and Prema Rawat, while pace bowlers Kranti Gaud and Nandini Sharma have also made their presence felt. India has previously won the Asia Cup title seven times and is now eyeing an eighth victory.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka secured their spot in the final by defeating Pakistan in the semifinals. Led by Chamari Athapaththu, the team is just one step away from defending their title. Athapaththu has excelled with both bat and ball, while Harshitha Samareekrama has also shown promising form. Chamudi Prabodhani has been successful in taking wickets consistently in the bowling department.
The pitch at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium has favored spinners throughout the tournament, although pace bowlers have also made an impact in the early overs.
