
Guwahati, August 17: A Jan Aushadhi Kendra was inaugurated at the district hospital premises in Majuli, Assam, under the Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi scheme. The opening of this center has brought smiles to the faces of local residents and those from surrounding areas. They can now access high-quality, life-saving medicines at affordable prices.
The people of Majuli are expressing their gratitude to the state administration and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative.
The formal inauguration took place on Monday at the Shri Shri Pitarambar Dev Goswami District Hospital, led by Majuli MLA Bhuban Gam. During the event, he encouraged the community to take advantage of the quality medicines available at lower prices through this Jan Aushadhi Kendra.
The event was attended by several doctors, nurses, staff from the district hospital, and local residents.
Dr. Kishore Kumar Kaman, the Joint Director of the program, stated that the Jan Aushadhi Kendra in front of the district hospital will provide over 2,100 different generic medicines. These medicines will be available at discounts ranging from 50% to 90%.
As part of the Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi initiative, a total of 20,149 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened across the country as of July 30, 2026. According to government estimates, citizens have saved approximately ₹45,000 crores over the past 12 years. The generic medicines available at these centers are significantly cheaper than branded alternatives.
The list of products available under the Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi scheme includes 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical and medical items. This encompasses treatments for major health issues such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, infections, allergies, and gastrointestinal disorders, along with nutraceuticals.
