Chandigarh, August 17: BJP MP Tarun Chugh has sharply criticized the Congress party regarding the controversy surrounding the national song “Vande Mataram.” He also accused Congress of double standards concerning the student protests in Jharkhand.
In an interview, Chugh expressed his disappointment over Congress leader Sonia Gandhi‘s alleged failure to fully sing “Vande Mataram” during Independence Day celebrations at the party headquarters. He stated, “It is very unfortunate, shameful, and concerning. The national song, anthem, and flag represent the pride, respect, and dignity of our country. Brave soldiers sacrifice their lives for these symbols, yet Sonia Gandhi is publicly insulting India’s self-respect and pride.”
Chugh further remarked that tears did not flow from Gandhi when CRPF soldiers were martyred in Dantewada. In contrast, he noted that when a terrorist died in the Batla House encounter, an official statement claimed she cried all night. He labeled her actions regarding “Vande Mataram” as treason, asserting that the nation will never forgive her. He accused the Gandhi-Nehru family of working under a foreign toolkit to defame the country and insult the Constitution.
He added that while Indian soldiers were teaching Pakistan a lesson during Operation Sindoor, Rahul Gandhi was acting as a spokesperson for the neighboring country, echoing their statements verbatim. “This is very unfortunate,” he concluded.
Regarding the student protests in Jharkhand, Chugh took a jab at Congress, stating that there was agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar about how to politically hijack the movement, but the protesting students ignored it. He pointed out that since Congress is in a coalition government in Jharkhand, they remain silent while students are being beaten. “This is Congress’s double standard, which the nation has seen before,” he asserted.
