New Delhi, August 19: Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi has responded sharply to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s recent remarks. He stated that it is now essential to learn the significance of freedom and patriotism from those who believe that independence was achieved only after 2014.
Ranaut had criticized Congress, asserting that “Vande Mataram” reflects India’s consciousness. As an artist, she understands the profound impact art and poetry can have on people’s minds. However, she expressed concern over the opposition and hatred directed towards “Vande Mataram” and attempts to suppress its singing.
She further claimed that Congress has evolved from merely opposing the BJP to becoming anti-national.
In a conversation, Pratapgarhi asserted that there is no need to learn the definition of patriotism from Ranaut, who claims that freedom was attained only after 2014. He emphasized that her arguments fall flat when she makes such statements. While acknowledging Ranaut’s acting career, he suggested that she should start focusing on education.
He also targeted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), alleging that the organization did not hoist the national flag at its offices for a long time and raised questions about the Constitution. He highlighted Congress’s historical contribution to the freedom movement.
On the decision by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to cancel exams under the JSSC-CGL, Pratapgarhi noted that students are thanking Rahul Gandhi and chanting slogans in his support. Gandhi intervened with sensitivity, engaging with students, while Congress representatives remained present to support them.
He mentioned that after Gandhi’s letter, the Chief Minister also showed sensitivity by personally meeting with student representatives and accepting most of their demands. Students across the country are voicing their concerns, and Gandhi has consistently prioritized such issues. Congress stands firmly with the students.
Regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements, he questioned why the Indian media finds them significant while ignoring criticisms of the Prime Minister, labeling them as internal matters.
He also raised concerns about the Election Commission, stating that a comprehensive debate is needed regarding its role in the electoral process. The actions of the Election Commission during this period will likely not be remembered fondly.
