Iran has retaliated against attacks from Israel by launching strikes on several countries in the Middle East, including the UAE. Explosions have been reported near Dubai Airport, leading to its closure. The Zimbabwe team was scheduled to take a connecting flight from Dubai to their home country after departing from New Delhi on Monday. Due to the airport’s closure, their return has been postponed.
Head coach Justin Samons stated, “It’s difficult for the players to ignore such a situation. Everyone was thinking they would leave for home on Monday morning. There are discussions happening within the team. No new information was provided on Sunday, and there were no updates until the match against South Africa began.”
Currently, the Zimbabwe players are stranded in Delhi, awaiting further instructions. Their return will now depend on the revised schedule and arrangements.
Due to the closure of Dubai Airport, arrangements may be made to send the Zimbabwe players and support staff home via Ethiopian Airlines based in Addis Ababa. The ICC announced on Saturday that they are working on alternative flight arrangements for players and officials returning home after the T20 World Cup.
