Jammu, February 24: Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and a leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has taken to social media to criticize Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Her remarks come in response to a viral video that allegedly shows mistreatment of Kashmiri Muslim students at Punjab’s CT University.
In a post on the social media platform X, Iltija tagged Chief Minister Mann, questioning whether he supports the university’s vice-chancellor’s actions against the Kashmiri students for requesting food for Iftar and Sehri during Ramadan.
She expressed her shock that even in a state like Punjab, attacking Kashmiris has become commonplace. Iltija demanded strict action against the vice-chancellor, stating that anything less would be mere pretense.
The video that prompted her response claims that Muslim Kashmiri students were allegedly asked to vacate the campus and threatened with expulsion for requesting food during Ramadan. Iltija also tagged the Punjab Police and the state’s Director General of Police in her post.
In December 2025, Iltija filed a case against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the ‘hijab’ controversy, which arose after a video surfaced showing him removing a Muslim female doctor’s hijab. She accused Kumar of making derogatory and unacceptable comments regarding the dignity of Indian women.
Iltija Mufti contested the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections from the Gufwara-Bijbehara (Anantnag) constituency, a traditional PDP seat, but unfortunately lost. She remains active on social media and in public debates, advocating for Kashmiri interests, human rights, youth empowerment, and regional autonomy.
