Mathura, June 3: An IIT graduate has been arrested in Govardhan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly luring young women and subjecting them to sexual exploitation through brainwashing.
Mathura’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Suresh Chandra Rawat informed reporters that significant leads have emerged in the case following the arrest. A forensic examination of electronic devices is underway, and statements from the victims’ families are being recorded. The accused reportedly recruited young men and women into his group, manipulating them into engaging in inappropriate activities.
The police have also apprehended a mechanical engineer from the Govardhan area, who is accused of exploiting young women through online devotional activities, including bhajans and kirtans. A location known as ‘Radha Kund’ in the Mathura district is associated with the suspect, who was residing there under the name Abhishek.
SP Rawat elaborated that the accused claimed to provide online discourses on the Bhagavad Gita. He is a graduate of IIT Roorkee, where he studied mechanical engineering from 2017 to 2021. Originally from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, he had been living in the Govardhan area.
The case came to light when a young woman filed a complaint at the Govardhan police station. Based on her report, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Charges have been filed against him, and he is currently being interrogated. Authorities are also looking into how many other young men and women may have been in contact with him, as there may be additional victims.
According to police, the accused would manipulate young women into joining his group. Allegations suggest that he brainwashed them into participating in so-called Gandharva marriages, subsequently engaging in physical relations with these women.
