
New Delhi, June 29: The Indian cricket team faced a narrow defeat against Ireland in the second T20 International match on Sunday, losing by just one run. With this victory, Ireland secured its first-ever T20 series win against India.
Following India’s series loss, Iceland Cricket took to social media platform ‘X’ to mock head coach Gautam Gambhir. They stated, “We can confirm that we do not wish to include Gautam Gambhir in our coaching staff. However, he clearly has talent. Achieving such results against Indian players is truly remarkable talent.”
India’s performance in the second T20 match was disappointing. Batting first, Ireland scored 154 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Harry Tector played a solid innings, scoring 53 runs off 47 balls, which included 5 fours and a six. Benjamin Kalitz contributed 37 runs from 23 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. For India, debutant Prince Yadav impressed with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 22 runs, while Shivam Dubey and Arshdeep Singh claimed two wickets each.
Chasing a target of 155 runs, India managed only 153 runs, losing 9 wickets. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed without scoring. Ishan Kishan (12 runs) and captain Shreyas Iyer (10 runs) also failed to make a significant impact. Axar Patel scored just 14 runs off 18 balls, and Shivam Dubey was out for 20 runs. Tilak Varma stood out with a commendable 55 runs off 46 balls, but lacked support from the other end. Harshit Rana made a valiant effort in the final overs, scoring 21 runs off 10 balls, but India fell just one run short of victory. Earlier, in the first T20, Ireland had defeated India by 34 runs.
