Dubai, June 12: ICC President Jay Shah has extended his best wishes to all 12 countries participating in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament kicked off on Friday with a match between host England and Sri Lanka.

In a post on X, Shah stated, “The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is starting. I wish all 12 teams the best of luck. Your commitment, talent, and determination will continue to inspire fans and pave the way for future generations. I hope this tournament showcases the best of women’s cricket and elevates the sport to new heights.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is being hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board. England hosted the inaugural edition in 2009 and emerged as champions. New Zealand, the defending champions, aim to retain their title as they begin their campaign against the West Indies in the tournament’s fourth match at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.

After winning their first Women’s T20 World Cup title in the UAE in 2024, New Zealand enters the tournament with full confidence. Under the captaincy of star all-rounder Amelia Kerr, New Zealand is among the favorites to advance from Group 2.

Australia, the most successful team in the tournament’s history, will kick off their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against South Africa at Old Trafford on Saturday. The six-time champions are entering the tournament as the world’s top-ranked T20 team and aim for a strong start under new captain Sophie Molinax. Meanwhile, South Africa, currently ranked fifth in this format, will be striving for their first title. The Indian team, hoping to win their first title, will begin their journey against Pakistan on Sunday.

A total of 12 teams are participating in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, with a total of 33 matches scheduled.
