Husband Dies Attempting to Escape Police Custody in Guwahati Murder Case

Guwahati, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : A man accused of murdering his wife died while attempting to escape police custody in Guwahati, Assam. According to police sources, the incident occurred during a transfer for a medical examination.

The suspect, identified as Ramanuj Goswami, jumped from a moving police vehicle in the Narakasur Hill area while trying to flee. Police reported that during the escape attempt, he was shot and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

Goswami had been charged with the murder of his wife, Riya Talukdar Goswami, whose severed head was discovered in their refrigerator at home. It is alleged that he killed her following a domestic dispute.

Two days after the incident, Goswami surrendered at the Hatigaon police station, leading to his arrest. The couple had been married for approximately six months prior to the incident and lived together in an apartment in Hatigaon. Ramanuj, originally from Gauripur, worked as an Uber driver while Riya was employed at a boutique.

Riya’s murder reportedly took place in their apartment, and neighbors alerted the police due to a foul smell emanating from the residence. Upon investigation, authorities found a sharp weapon, several bottles of alcohol, and blood stains inside the apartment, with signs of a struggle evident throughout the space. Forensic analysis confirmed that Riya had been murdered.
