Jaipur, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Results from the ongoing counting of votes in the 2026 Rajasthan local elections are emerging, with early trends indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in the lead in Jaipur. However, Congress leaders are optimistic, claiming that several results are still pending where they expect strong performances. They assert that Congress will secure more than 60 seats in the city.
Manmohan Gurjar, a newly elected Congress councillor from Ward 51, celebrated his victory as a win for the party and its supporters. He indicated that he won by a substantial margin of approximately 1,700 to 1,800 votes. Gurjar emphasized that this success belongs to the party, its workers, and the people of Sanganeer.
Similarly, Congress councillor Suresh Meena reported his victory with a margin of 518 votes. He attributed this achievement to the blessings and support of the public, along with the hard work of Congress activists. Meena noted that the voters’ backing has been crucial for the party’s success.
Rafiq Khan, the chief whip of the Congress legislative party in the Rajasthan Assembly, reacted to the preliminary results, acknowledging the BJP’s lead. However, he pointed out that many seats where Congress is expected to perform well have yet to be counted. Khan expressed confidence that Congress could win two to three more seats than the BJP in his assembly constituency. He mentioned that while four to five seats have been declared for the BJP, the results for Congress are still pending. He believes Congress could secure between eight to ten seats, with similar trends anticipated in the Kishanpole and Hawa Mahal areas.
In Ajmer, Congress leaders and candidates are hopeful for favorable outcomes. Candidate Noratmal Gurjar stated that the public has chosen change this time and predicted that the upcoming board will be led by Congress. He expressed gratitude to the voters in his area for their continued support, marking his fourth consecutive term.
Extensive arrangements have been made for the counting process in Ajmer. According to District Election Officer and Collector Lokbandhu, the counting is taking place in six rooms, with seven tables in five rooms and six in one. The allocation of tables corresponds to the wards, and the electronic voting machines (EVMs) are being counted in the same order.
Counting of postal ballots is being conducted first. In areas where postal ballots are not used, counting began at 8 AM with EVMs. Only authorized candidates, election agents, and counting agents are allowed entry into the counting center. Mobile phones are prohibited in the actual counting room, and Section 163 has been invoked to maintain law and order, banning victory processions and similar activities.
Security at the counting centers in Ajmer has been tightened. CO South Manish Badgujar reported that three gates have been designated for different entry points. Separate parking arrangements have been made, and traffic has been diverted to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement.
He also stated that only authorized officials and agents related to the counting process are permitted entry. Currently, the administration has prohibited victory processions and related activities, with plans to ensure compliance with any further instructions issued by the authorities.
