Humayun Kabir Critiques TMCs Corruption After Election Victory

Murshidabad, May 5: Humayun Kabir, who gained attention during the Babri Masjid construction, formed the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) after being expelled from the TMC. He contested and won elections from the Rezinagar and Nawada seats. Following his victory, Kabir shared his thoughts on the TMC, Congress, CPM, and BJP.

In an interview with a news agency, Kabir stated, “When the Chief Minister herself lost, there was only one position left in the TMC—the Chief Minister. The rest were merely nominal ministers. If the leader loses, the party’s candidates are bound to lose as well. The past five years, from 2021 to 2026, were riddled with corruption. The TMC government faced issues during its second term, but in the third term, the impact was minimal because the public had no other option. Mamata Banerjee assumed that whatever she did, the public would accept. In the end, the public taught her a lesson.”

Kabir drew parallels to the 2011 elections when ministers in Buddhadeb Bhattacharya’s cabinet also faced defeat. He emphasized that rampant corruption in the TMC left the common man with no choice but to vote for the BJP. He noted that Congress and CPI(M) have no significant base in West Bengal, which benefited the BJP.

He added, “The new BJP government in West Bengal should work for the people’s interests. If the BJP also errs, I will oppose them.”

Mamata Banerjee had championed the slogan ‘Maa, Mati, Manush,’ but her disconnection from this promise over the past five years led to her rejection by the public. Despite being a three-time Chief Minister, MP, and minister, she faced defeat in the Bhawanipur seat, indicating that the public was dissatisfied with her governance. Abhishek Banerjee had previously won the Lok Sabha elections with a significant margin alongside police support. The true impact of this victory will be revealed in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Kabir announced that he would leave the Rezinagar assembly seat to focus on serving the Nawada constituency. He plans to field his son, Gulab Nabi Azad, in the elections and hopes the public will support him as they did for Kabir.
