New Delhi, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : As the Ganesh Chaturthi festival comes to a close, devotees in New Delhi are preparing for the farewell of Lord Ganesha on Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on September 25 this year. This day is traditionally marked by the ceremonial immersion of Ganesha idols, accompanied by prayers, offerings, and rituals.
It is believed that immersing the idol with devotion and proper rites fosters a positive atmosphere in homes and brings prosperity. Before the immersion, family members gather around the idol for a farewell prayer, offering flowers, grass, fruits, and food. They also perform an aarti to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
Before removing the idol from its place, families can also perform a traditional farewell ritual known as ‘Uttar Puja.’ It is essential to complete all customary farewell rites at home prior to heading to the immersion site.
For the final offering, a separate plate can be prepared, and all necessary items for the prayer should be kept together to avoid multiple trips. The idol is adorned with flowers and simple decorations for the last goodbye, as devotees carry Ganesha to the designated immersion site, singing devotional songs and chanting slogans.
On Anant Chaturdashi, the immersion is celebrated with drums, devotional hymns, and the enthusiastic chant of “Ganapati Bappa Morya,” reflecting the belief that Lord Ganesha will return the following year.
For those celebrating at home, immersion can take place in suitable vessels, artificial ponds, or designated tanks. Devotees are encouraged to transport idols to local immersion sites according to community guidelines.
