Mumbai, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Abu Azmi, the Maharashtra president of the Samajwadi Party, has voiced concerns over the increasing atmosphere of hatred against Muslims in India. Speaking in Mumbai, he criticized the government for its alleged actions against mosques and slum dwellings, claiming these measures are intended to send a political message to the majority community by deliberately causing distress to Muslims.
In an interview, Azmi pointed out that certain individuals are promoting hate politics, with various institutions acting as their tools. He urged the Supreme Court to take such matters seriously and called for the Election Commission to monitor the situation closely, describing these conditions as alarming for a democratic society.
Addressing the issue of illegal constructions, Azmi stated that if action is to be taken against such buildings, it should be applied uniformly across the board. He highlighted instances of alleged illegal constructions in several areas of Delhi, arguing that targeting only mosques sends a detrimental message. According to him, such actions threaten the unity and brotherhood of the nation.
Azmi also raised questions about law and order in Uttar Pradesh, citing concerns over incidents of robbery, murder, and other crimes. He criticized police encounters and called for fair investigations and actions in accordance with the law. He suggested the establishment of additional courts and night hearings to expedite the resolution of criminal cases.
Furthermore, Azmi addressed the issue of drug abuse in Maharashtra, asserting that the government could direct police to take strict action against drug networks. He proposed the creation of special units in every police station focused on combating drug trafficking.
On the topic of redevelopment in slum areas and buildings taller than 14 feet, Azmi emphasized the need for proper rehabilitation plans for residents before any action is taken. He noted that many individuals possess essential documents such as ration cards, Aadhaar cards, and voter IDs, and removing them without alternative arrangements would be unjust. He urged the government to ensure housing and rehabilitation measures are in place before proceeding with any demolitions.
