Shiv Sena Spokesperson Condemns Sanjay Rauts Controversial Remarks on Parliament
Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam criticizes Sanjay Rauts remarks about Parliament, emphasizing the sanctity of constitutional institutions.

Mumbai, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : In Mumbai, tensions within the Shiv Sena (UBT) have escalated following controversial remarks made by MP Sanjay Raut regarding Parliament. Spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam expressed his outrage, stating that while political commentary is acceptable, the sanctity of India’s constitutional institutions must remain intact.
Nirupam’s comments came in response to a Supreme Court notice regarding a petition challenging inheritance rules under Muslim Personal Law. He remarked, “Muslim Personal Law discriminates between Muslim men and women in various ways. This is a reality. Conversely, India’s Constitution mandates equality, stating that there should be no discrimination between men and women. The current petition challenges certain provisions of these personal laws.”
He highlighted two specific aspects of the rules that are particularly problematic: the regulation concerning inheritance without a will and the discrimination in the distribution of inherited property between genders. Both of these rules, he argued, are contrary to the constitutional framework of India.
Nirupam also referenced a sensational report regarding the functioning of the Election Commission, which claims discrepancies among the three election commissioners on various issues. Despite these disagreements, decisions were made. He noted that two election commissioners had written letters addressing these concerns, with approximately 13 to 14 such letters documented over recent months.
He emphasized that the institutional and legal framework governing the Election Commission is clear. Decisions should be made by consensus, and where consensus is lacking, majority decisions should prevail.
Responding to Raut’s statements, Nirupam expressed his disapproval, stating that Raut should feel no shame in making derogatory comments about an institution he is part of—the Parliament, which is the country’s highest body formed under India’s sacred Constitution. Nirupam condemned Raut’s remarks and urged him to respect the sanctity of Parliament, asserting that while political commentary is permissible, preserving the integrity of constitutional institutions is a collective responsibility.
