Honor joins the longevity race in the Android ecosystem, promising extended software support through Android 21
May 21, 2025: Honor is making bold strides in software support with its upcoming Honor 400 series, promising a full six years of Android OS updates, beginning with Android 15. This move places Honor alongside top Android manufacturers like Samsung, which recently committed to seven years of updates for select devices.

While the Honor 400 series may not carry the headline-grabbing folding form factor of the upcoming Magic V5, it offers something equally valuable for mainstream users: longevity. The new phones are expected to ship with Android 15 out of the box and receive updates all the way through Android 21, ensuring long-term relevance and usability.
Early Access to Android 16
Honor also confirmed that the Honor 400 series will be among the first to receive Android 16, Google’s upcoming operating system. A beta version of Android 16 is already available for the Magic 7 Pro, and Honor has stated that the Honor 400, Magic V3, and Magic 7 Pro will all receive Android 16 in 2025, well ahead of many competitors.
This early adoption is a signal of Honor’s renewed focus on timely software rollouts, something that has become increasingly important as users hold onto their devices longer and expect security and feature parity over time.
A Competitive Edge in Software Support
With Android fragmentation still a persistent concern in the ecosystem, Honor’s six-year commitment is a welcome announcement. It not only ensures that devices will receive major Android OS upgrades, but also security patches and user experience improvements during that time.
Samsung currently leads the pack with seven years of updates on some premium models, and Google’s Pixel lineup offers long-term support as well. Honor’s commitment places it near the top tier of Android OEMs in terms of post-purchase value.
What’s Next for Honor?
Beyond the Honor 400, the company is preparing to unveil the Magic V5, a foldable expected to be thinner and more refined than its predecessor. With software becoming a key differentiator among Android brands, Honor’s long-term update policy could be a game-changer—especially for budget-conscious users seeking a secure, reliable device over multiple years.
The company also mentioned that its Android 16 rollout will begin before the end of 2025, though exact timelines may vary by model.
