Kolkata, May 9: Following the Indian National Congress’s victory in West Bengal, preparations are underway for Suvendu Adhikari to take the oath as the new Chief Minister. This event marks the dawn of a new political era in Bengal. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described this occasion as historic. He emphasized that this day is significant not just for the change of power, but also as a signal of a larger cultural and political transformation. The atmosphere in Bengal today is particularly special as it coincides with the birth anniversary of poet Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
Pradhan stated that this change resembles a long-awaited dream. He noted that this event pays true homage to Syama Prasad Mukherjee, who dedicated his life to India’s unity and development. He highlighted that the public has placed their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, and now the state is poised to advance in a new direction of development.
Meanwhile, Bihar Minister Ramkripal Yadav extended his best wishes to Suvendu Adhikari. He expressed confidence that under the new Chief Minister’s leadership, the pace of development in Bengal will accelerate. According to him, the state has long strayed from the path of progress, but it is now set to move forward again.
Notably, Suvendu Adhikari won two assembly seats in this election: Nandigram and Bhawanipur. He defeated Trinamool Congress leader and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhawanipur seat.
The oath-taking ceremony will take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, with prominent leaders from across the country expected to attend. Reports indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states will be present.
The announcement of the BJP’s historic victory came on May 4, following the assembly election results. Subsequently, the party leadership convened to elect Suvendu Adhikari as the leader of the legislative party, confirming his nomination for the Chief Minister position.
