Udaipur (Daily Kiran): With CSR support from Hindustan Zinc, the historic Gora Badal Stadium, located at the heart of the city, will be developed into a modern sports complex, providing a major boost to local players and citizens. This was stated by Member of Parliament C.P. Joshi while addressing the gathering during the signing of an MoU between Hindustan Zinc Limited and the Municipal Council.
Praising the initiative, Joshi said the day marks a historic moment for Chittorgarh, as the Gora Badal Stadium—once associated with former Prime Ministers and renowned sports personalities—is set to be redeveloped in a new form. He noted that although citizens and players continued to visit the area for morning walks, the stadium had remained largely unused for several years. With the signing of the MoU, the stadium will regain its vibrancy and emerge as a major attraction for the city.
The MoU ceremony was held at the District Rural Development Agency auditorium in the presence of MP C.P. Joshi as chief guest, MLA Chandrabhan Singh Aankya as special guest, District In-charge Secretary Sarvan Kumar, District Collector Alok Ranjan, Hindustan Zinc Limited CEO Arun Misra, Vedanta Group CSR Head Anupam Nidhi, and Chanderiya Smelting Complex Location Head Alok Ranjan.
On the occasion, MLA Chandrabhan Singh Aankya thanked Hindustan Zinc for the comprehensive development initiative, stating that coordinated efforts by the administration and public representatives will help revive this historic site. He said the project will provide renewed opportunities for youth and sports talent while encouraging a healthy lifestyle among citizens.
Hindustan Zinc CEO and Whole-time Director Arun Misra said that sports have the power to build character, strengthen individuals, and unite communities. He stated that through the development of the Gora Badal Sports Complex, the company aims to create an ecosystem where youth can identify their potential and pursue their aspirations, viewing such investments as long-term contributions to youth development and community well-being.
Chanderiya Smelting Complex Location Head Alok Ranjan, through a presentation, shared details of the proposed development works, stating that the objective is to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure, promote physical fitness, and provide structured opportunities for youth participation and talent development across the state.
The project has been designed and planned in phases in line with international and modern sports facility standards and long-term community needs. The stadium will be developed into a multi-purpose sports complex suitable for training, tournaments, festivals, and various events.
Proposed facilities include a football ground, jogging and walking tracks, separate changing rooms for boys and girls, sanitation facilities, parking and security systems, CCTV surveillance, high-mast lighting, solar-based electrification, rainwater harvesting structures, approach road development, and renovation of boundary walls and entry-exit points.
Under the MoU, the agreement was signed and exchanged by Municipal Council Commissioner K.G. Mali and Chanderiya Smelting Complex Location Head Alok Ranjan on behalf of Hindustan Zinc. Several public representatives, officials, and company representatives were present on the occasion.
