Chandigarh, May 12: Himachal Pradesh has reported 86 cloudbursts, 234 landslides, and 121 sudden flood incidents between 2023 and 2025, resulting in a staggering loss of ₹12,500 crores.
This information emerged from a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhu. The meeting reviewed the Resilient Action for Development and Disaster Recovery in Himachal Pradesh (READY-HP) initiative.

Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the increasing frequency of natural disasters, emphasizing that Himachal Pradesh, located in a young and fragile Himalayan region, is particularly vulnerable.
The initiative aims to restore infrastructure affected by disasters, including roads, water supply systems, electricity, and livelihood projects. It also seeks to develop a robust and resilient rehabilitation system across the state.
Sukhu stated that READY-HP’s goal is to support strong post-disaster reconstruction. The project will focus on strengthening public services, creating job opportunities through initiatives like Green Panchayat, and improving risk-based social security and insurance systems.
The Chief Minister underscored the need for developing strong infrastructure for farmers and horticulturists to safeguard their livelihoods during natural disasters.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) K.K. Pant, Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar, Advisor (Planning) Ravindra Kumar, Director (Energy) Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, Director (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj) Raghav Sharma, Deputy Project Director Surendra Maltoo, and other senior officials.
