
Shimla, June 21: The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhu, presided over an International Yoga Day event organized by the Ayush Department at the Sports Authority of India’s synthetic track ground in Anu, Hamirpur district. On Sunday, he practiced yoga for approximately 45 minutes alongside nearly 2,000 participants, including seniors, youth, and children.
The session commenced with the Chief Minister lighting a traditional lamp and offering prayers to Lord Dhanvantari. He also launched a booklet related to International Yoga Day, which provides essential information on various yoga postures and practices.
Following the yoga session, the Chief Minister engaged in discussions with young trainees and athletes. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for talented players. A modern indoor stadium is being constructed in Nadaun at an estimated cost of ₹125 crore, set to be dedicated to state athletes by the end of this year. The stadium will feature international-standard facilities for 14 sports, including swimming, badminton, volleyball, and tennis.
The Chief Minister announced that the government has introduced substantial cash rewards for medal winners in international competitions. Gold medalists at the Asian Games will receive ₹3 crore, silver medalists ₹2 crore, and bronze medalists ₹1.5 crore.
Similarly, athletes excelling in the Olympics and other international events will also be awarded significant cash prizes. He noted that shortly after taking office three and a half years ago, the government had significantly increased the diet allowance for athletes. Arrangements have also been made for players to travel by airplane and air-conditioned trains. The Chief Minister stated that a sufficient budget is being allocated for the repair and renovation of the synthetic track ground in Anu.
