New Delhi, August 6: The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises presented six reports in Parliament on Thursday. The committee’s chairman, Baijayant Panda, who is also the National Vice President of the BJP and a Member of Parliament from Kendrapara, submitted these reports to the house.
These reports pertain to the 2026-27 session of the 18th Lok Sabha. They include a comprehensive investigation report, a horizontal investigation report, and four action taken reports (ATRs).
The committee presented a detailed investigation report on NHPC Limited, a horizontal investigation report on the performance of public sector insurance companies, and an audit report on BSNL’s installation of 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots. Additionally, action reports on REC Limited, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, and a horizontal investigation into the performance of public sector enterprises in the petroleum and natural gas sector were also submitted.
Through these reports, the committee assessed the operations of public companies in key economic sectors and provided recommendations to enhance governance, accountability, and efficiency.
In the report reviewing public sector insurance companies, the committee emphasized the need to expand insurance accessibility across the country. It highlighted the goal of achieving ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.
The report stated that a digital transformation in the insurance system is necessary. This change would facilitate the availability of affordable and easily accessible insurance products to the general public, thereby improving financial security for every citizen. The committee’s productivity has significantly increased over the past two years.
In the 2024-25 session, the committee submitted 12 reports, while 18 reports were presented in 2025-26. The committee set a record by presenting eight reports in one day in 2024 and eleven reports in a single day in 2025.
For 2026-27, the committee has selected 21 topics, including new issues such as aviation, railways, coal, investments in renewable energy, and the use of artificial intelligence in public enterprises.
The committee will also conduct in-depth investigations into major public companies like ONGC Videsh Limited, NewSpace India Limited, and Cochin Shipyard Limited.
Baijayant Panda remarked that the active participation and constructive discussions among all committee members significantly contributed to these reports. This collaboration has enabled the committee to fulfill its parliamentary responsibilities more effectively.
