
Ranchi, June 21: On the occasion of International Yoga Day, a mass yoga session was held at the Birsa Mandap in Jharkhand Lok Bhavan on Sunday. A total of 253 participants, including members of the Lok Bhavan family, officials, staff, and school children, practiced yoga under the presence of Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
During the event, the Governor emphasized that yoga is an invaluable heritage of India that has shown the world the path to a healthy and balanced life. He stated that yoga is not merely physical exercise; it is a way of life that establishes balance between the body, mind, and soul, providing self-discipline, positive thinking, and mental peace.
The Governor noted that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, the United Nations General Assembly decided in 2014 to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day. This decision reflects global recognition of India’s cultural heritage and its commitment to human welfare. He added that yoga has become an effective means for promoting a healthy lifestyle and global well-being.
In today’s world, facing stress, unbalanced lifestyles, and various health challenges, yoga has emerged as a simple, effective, and natural solution. During the COVID-19 pandemic, yoga played a crucial role in maintaining people’s physical and mental health.
Expressing happiness over the large participation of school children, the Governor remarked that yoga provides a strong foundation for concentration, discipline, self-confidence, and personality development for students. Regular yoga practice fosters patience, balance, and positive thinking, which help in facing life’s challenges.
He urged everyone to not limit yoga to just a one-day event but to incorporate it into their daily lives. A healthy individual, healthy family, and healthy society are the strong foundations for a developed India. He also called for efforts to spread yoga to every individual and to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles.
